Dozens confirmed dead, hundreds missing after boat sinks in Congo

Authorities in western Congo, also referred to as Congo-Kinshasa, say at the least 30 individuals are lifeless and one other 200 are missing after a boat sank on a lake.

Simon Mboo Wemba, the mayor of Inongo, informed The Related Press on Sunday night time that lots of these aboard the boat that sank on Lake Mai-Ndombe had been lecturers.

The mayor says that they had travelled to gather their salaries by boat as a result of roads in the area are so poor.

It was not instantly identified how many individuals had been aboard the boat when it hit unhealthy climate late Saturday.

However officers estimate a number of hundred had been on board. Greater than 80 individuals survived.

Boats in the huge nation of Congo are sometimes overloaded with passengers and cargo, and official manifests do not embody all these aboard.
