2 people missing after bridge in southern China collapses, sending vehicles into river
A complete part of a roadway bridge has plunged into a large river in southern China, sending two vehicles into the water and leaving two people missing.
Heyuan metropolis police stated the 120-metre part collapsed early Friday morning.
China’s Xinhua Information Company reported that two close by safety guards rescued a 44-year-old man, and two different people remained missing.
Dramatic footage on state broadcaster CCTV confirmed two arches of the six-arch bridge falling aside inside seconds and with none obvious warning.
The bridge spans the Dongjiang River in Guangdong province.
The reason for the collapse is underneath investigation. Southern China has been hit with heavy rains and flooding that has induced 61 deaths, nevertheless it wasn’t clear if swelling waters had been an element.
