Sanwo-Olu needs wisdom of Solomon, courage of Moses to survive – Obasa

– Lagos speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, has revealed how former governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode, blackmailed the House

– Obasa said that Ambode used all means to stop the lawmakers from carrying out their oversight functions

– The speaker, however, advised Sanwo-Olu to take a bold step to embark on rail transportation in order to ease traffic congestion across the state

The speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, on Friday, November 8, argued that no amount of rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads can save residents from the perennial traffic situation currently suffered in most areas of the state.

Legit.ng reports that Obasa urged the Sanwo-Olu to develop the courage to embark on rail and water transport as this would help ease the burden of transportation on the people of the state.

“Mr Governor must be bold to lay a solid foundation to be built on by successive administrations. It is high time to come up with innovative ideas and strategies to bring about change to the state with the aim of taking it to the next level. It is common knowledge that doing things same way will yield same results,” he said.

According to the spaeker, the focus on rail should be made to connect the entire Lagos from Ogun state boundary down to Lekki-Epe.

He added that a rail project from Ikorodu to some areas of Lagos should be urgently considered while the ones under construction should be speedily completed.

“No amount of road patching, rehabilitations and constructions will really solve our transportation problem judging by the influx of people into Lagos on daily basis. With money or not, we have to start doing something,” Obasa said while also emphasising the need for water transportation.

Obasa also slammed the immediate past governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, accusing him of blackmailing the lawmakers to stop them from carrying out oversight duties.

He said this during the presentation of the 2020 budget of N1.168,561,534,191 by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Obasa said the state needed a leader with the courage of Moses and the wisdom of Solomon to make the state successful in the next four years.

While commending the governor for his zeal to make Lagos work, he reminded him of the huge task and expectations before him.

He urged the governor to be sure that nothing can deter the House from carrying out its constitutional duties.

“Some people, like one Olu Fajana, with his faceless group calling themselves the Legislative Probity and Accountability (LPA) led a protest to this House. They used the medium to blackmail the House instead of reasoning with us to join hands in moving the state forward, by avoiding the treasury of the state from being touched unconstitutionally.

“With this, it is common knowledge that the last administration employed blackmailing and harassment to witch-hunt and deprive the House from performing its duties appropriately,” he said.

He, however, assured the governor of the cooperation of the House.
