– The Coalition for Good Governance and Economic Justice in Africa has called on the EFCC and ICPC to probe Obaseki’s government
– The group said the alleged arrest of Obaseki’s commissioner, Osaze Osemwingie-Ero, made the probe become necessary

A group identified as the Coalition for Good Governance and Economic Justice in Africa has called for the probe of the administration of the Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, over allegations of money laundering.
The Nation reports that the group told the anti-graft agencies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Commission (ICPC), that the alleged arrest of Obaseki’s commissioner, Osaze Osemwingie-Ero, made the probe become necessary.
Osemwingie-Ero was reportedly arrested in France by Interpol over alleged possession of $2 million.
Legit.ng gathers that the group’s country director, John Mayaki, on Sunday, January 12, also accused Governor Obaseki of damaging public trust.
The group also accused Governor Obaseki of running an opaque government, saying he has refused to make public the spendings of the government since he assumed office.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Obaseki ordered the state justice ministry and the ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs to commence prosecution of council chairmen who were relieved of their offices over corruption allegations.
The governor said this on Thursday, January 9, at the swearing-in of a new chairman for Esan West local government area, Ruth Osahon, at the Government House in Benin city.
The governor warned that his administration would not turn a blind eye to corrupt practices at the local council level.
“We will not be afraid to make the right decisions where necessary,” Obaseki warned.
He urged the new chairman of Esan West local government to cooperate with relevant authorities in investigations into records of the previous chairman of the council, Patrick Aguinede, who was sacked over corruption allegations.
